fuji house

With Haruka Fuji

Date : December 2010 - Completed in January 2012

Client : Private

Location : Nara, JP

Project description: House for a family of 4 including a piano room.

Work : Schematic Design to Completion

First house realized as independent architect and in close collaboration with a Japanese catalogue housing company upon client requirements. The project is made of prefabricated panels assembled on site.

As the different elements of the program claimed a need for independence and various levels of privacy, living spaces are organized around a plan in “cross”, linked in the center by a double height void allowing cross-connections through sound and view.

For the piano room, on the north side of the house, we decided to work with textile artist Akane Moriyama who designed 5.5m high curtains weaved with metal threads. The project was conceptually challenging as the clients required to have the house built by a catalogue house company for insurances and tax requirements. Using their standard elements, respecting anti-seismic constraints, and trying to maintain architectural quality was a great challenge but made this work a project to remember.
